My Saturday so far...
Aug. 9th, 2008 05:56 pmSlept in this morning until I woke up on my own... This meant I woke up around 9am. This is also not something I get to do very often, even on the weekends.
We got up and went for a walk around Crab Cove and Crown Memorial Beach - this turned into a hour plus long walk, most of it aerobic level according to our pedometers. I keep forgetting that we live between two and three blocks from the beach and forgetting how lovely the walk is. And we started noticing how nice some of the picnic areas are that are there. HHmmmmm... Pinky, are you pondering what I am pondering?.....
When we got home we measured our teensy fridge for the riser we've been needing to make for it. I mean really, you should NOT have to bend over just to get something off of the TOP shelf. Sheesh. And getting something off the bottom shelf should not involve putting my back out or
cruz531 having to kneel. So we took an 8 foot piece of 4 x 4 we had downstairs, cut it into appropriate lengths, and made a box frame riser for the fridge. And it took less than an hour to fix something that had been bugging us about this fridge since the landlords got it for us two years ago. It's MUCH better now. Of course it could be argued that we now have a trailer trash kitchen since our fridge is up on blocks... :)
I did some staining work on a piece of quarter-round to prep it for attachment to a piece of shelving that will go up in the kitchen far above the stove and the shelf of baking supplies to hold some of my novelty jars and canisters. Sadly when I went to check our house supply box I found that there was only ONE shelf bracket (several years ago we bought a small ton of shelf brackets that all match but we bought PAIRS and used PAIRS so if there are ANY left there should be PAIRS). Luckily the last time I was at Home Despot I noted that they still carry this style so all is not lost. I just have to apply the clear coat and attach the quarter-round to the front of the shelf and obtain an additional bracket. And then one more thing can get scratched off the never-ending "it would be nice if..." house list.
We also took a nap together, curled up on the couch downstairs in the sewing room - since it's nice and dark in there during the day and the bedroom is just too bright.
We had potstickers for lunch (and I got to use the fan that's built into the new range hood we installed) and caught up on a little TiVo.
And now I get to dive into balancing our check book and finishing the shelf. And I have to figure out if I want to go to Home Despot this evening - I just hate the thought of going for ONE damn bracket. But the shelf being finished and not being installed for lack of that self sam ebracket will likely drive me more nuts - and I WANT that shelf up damnit. Wheee.
