Wow - with the tired. Sitting down for a minute and need to sort out thoughts while tanking some water (been not too good about it today - *hush* I am fixing that whilst updating here).

We have gotten over half of the storage unit cleared out and mostly into the attic over the kitchen. We're both feeling super silly about paying for a storage unit for a while now when there was literally storage *right over our heads*.... uh yeah... not always smart.

We are trying to get out of the storage unit by Weds (the end of the month) cause we really cannot afford it for another month. And after Mon 1/5 my sweetie will not be allowed to lift anything over 10ish pounds for about 6 weeks. So if we don't manage this by this weds then we will be stuck paying for some sort of storage unit for at least 2-3 more months. Uh no - he's too stubborn for that. :)

We think we have gotten enough stuff condensed and sorted and rearranged (and stuffed into the attic) that we can manage this. Time will tell - especially this week.

One thing we will be doing shortly is sorting through our VHS tapes. Anything that we have on DVD we will be wanting to get rid of the VHS copy of. I will likely be posting something here about what we want to get rid of, as there is at least some duplication. I don't know how many of you still even HAVE VCR's but it won't hurt to put it out there.

Found a scary box of old financial stuff from 1993... some hard memories in there. A few of you will understand what I am talking about.

We got the amazing lego collection of DOOM into the attic. As well as the Xmas ornaments that we just cannot use living in such a TINY place. I find it amusing that the many more boxes of halloween stuff get to stay out of the attic though - heh. But I had a few "I miss Xmas" moments whilst repacking them. It's been over 10 years since I had a tree and decorated in any way really - and the last one that WAS in this house was an amazing fiasco of dumbass roomate power play politics that rather soured me to them for a good while.

And wow am I scared of how many books we own. Nuff said there.

I have now finished my large glass of water and will wrap this up. I hope the holidays were at least kind to all. There is a much more important update forthcoming - but we're rather crazed with chores and errands and such right now. So if we seem to be off the radar for a little bit that is why.

Now - off to get what is likely the last bit of STUFF into the attic. I just hope it all fits.

One load to the storage unit.... wow LOTS of books. Yes I know I own a LOT, but MAN when they have been boxed up for so long you kinda forget how many you have. Not a large load as the car was half full of glass recycling. Which, sadly, we could NOT get rid of cause two of the three places here on the island were closed and the third was full and could take no more glass.

Though I have now confirmed that yes, I DO indeed own TWO copies of Brisingamen. YAY. And one has been pressed into the hands of [ profile] cruz531 so that he can read it and I can keep one to KEEP so that I have one for always and ever. I also found much of the rest of my cache of DLP books and my set of MZB books in Japanese that she herself gave me for roughly my 11th or 12th birthday. I am currently of the opinion that I have some very neat books and I very much look forward to getting back to reading them for a second, third, fourth, or in some cases fifth+ time.

We are taking a quick break and will shortly again throw ourselves at the house and going through boxes and figuring out which ones are going to storage tomorrow - the goal is to get at least three loads of stuff out of the house. The storage unit is really only about half full at most so with some restacking and such we have space to work with. I really like the unit we have at the facility - it's right under a skylight AND one of the few electric lights is over our roll up door. SCORE! Oh and it's an indoor facility so if it's damp and rainy we can be dry.

Speaking of the storage facility, while we there I was looking at what was open and noticed that there was one that was THREE times the size of ours. *SIGH* The simple thought of actually being able to clear out the whole damn house and literally being able to move things back in one piece at a time? Really fracking attractive - albeit impractical on many levels too.

Some critical errands got done - like purchasing some of my vitamin supplements that I was almost out of and we got to our PO Box. So tomorrow we can focus on the house and getting the glass recycling with the first load.

Part of me REALLY wants to fart around and waste time and just play Puzzle Pirates tonight. But a LOT of today got lost cause we did not prep - so tonight is prep for tomorrow. Or at least SOME prep.

Keep eyes here for random posts about things I may be trying to get rid of, or ideas for sorting/organizing, etc. I am pretty good at sorting things out but this place has gotten more than a little overwhelming.

Oh and I have iced coffee, and will shortly have a guiness brownie - so you may all live. For now.... :)

So - Today, tomorrow and Monday I have taken off from work. Mainly due to Saturday being our 5th wedding anniversary.

The original plan was to have the big party we couldn't have 5 years ago, but with [ profile] cruz531 being out of work for over a year now kinda killed that. That's ok - I am not really a party person anyways. I may be social but I am not that into big crowds. So perhaps rethinking that is in order. I am ok with that. Besides, we have our 10th to plan for (evil grin).

The second plan was to try to go somewhere, but again with the no money. Travel is just too spendy.

So I cut down the time I am taking off (it was originally going to start just before Halloween and run past this weekend) and we are investing it into some time together, which is DAMN hard to get when I work roughly 50ish hours a week, and into ourselves and our home. We are going to spend as much time as we can trying to clean up and out the house and get stuff to our storage unit and get things sorted and repacked and and and...

Yeah, good luck with that, I know. But we are going to try.

This means that we, our lives, our home and our sanity have first dibs on our time from now through Monday. Other things may get alloted time within this window. A VERY limited amount of time will be given out that way - and in fact as of this morning the FULL amount of what I am willing to let infringe on our planned time has been taken. SO - if we have not already absolutely committed 100% to something? The answer is already a firm and polite "Thank you for thinking of us, but no."

Today and tomorrow is getting the house somewhat saner. Taking a load of empty glass to recycling and getting some money back (yay), taking a load or two (or more I hope) to storage, sorting through stuff, repacking stuff, possibly tossing stuff, possibly giving away stuff, and clearing off my sewing table so I can make something for [ profile] cruz531.

Saturday I hope to make it to the bead show for a short bit in the morning with friends and then spend the afternoon and evening with my sweetie. A movie may be in order, or a walk by the water, or just time at home. But together.

Sunday is very booked fulfilling a promise to [ profile] cadhla and more house stuff. I take promises very seriously and this one means a lot to me, and it could be fun and feed my soul in a way that it needs. So it gets some of my time on this special weekend. My time, my call, so there.

Monday will be trying to get the house back together before I go back to work.

I just hope that this time invested in us and the house is not wasted or eaten up by other stuff as it usually is. We slept in this morning (sleeping in being until 8:30) and have been noodling around and figuring out what the heck we are doing and planning and such so far and are about to scoot and get busy.

This means that unlike normal we will not be online most of the day though we will have our cell phones on. But please stop and think before you call us.

And now for a word from my snarky side - This means that unlike normal we will not be dropping everything we already have planned to do something for someone else. We will not be making everything outside ourselves more important. We are taking this time for us. If you don't like that idea, or the tone of this post, I have five words for you.... say so then go away. That way I can unfriend you. Cause we don't need you anymore.

OK - now to get the car unloaded from yesterday, then loaded, then moving! Wheee. Oh and to try to NOT overdo it and get a flare up. Yeah.. again with the "good luck with that"....

Slept in this morning until I woke up on my own... This meant I woke up around 9am. This is also not something I get to do very often, even on the weekends.

We got up and went for a walk around Crab Cove and Crown Memorial Beach - this turned into a hour plus long walk, most of it aerobic level according to our pedometers. I keep forgetting that we live between two and three blocks from the beach and forgetting how lovely the walk is. And we started noticing how nice some of the picnic areas are that are there. HHmmmmm... Pinky, are you pondering what I am pondering?.....

When we got home we measured our teensy fridge for the riser we've been needing to make for it. I mean really, you should NOT have to bend over just to get something off of the TOP shelf. Sheesh. And getting something off the bottom shelf should not involve putting my back out or [ profile] cruz531 having to kneel. So we took an 8 foot piece of 4 x 4 we had downstairs, cut it into appropriate lengths, and made a box frame riser for the fridge. And it took less than an hour to fix something that had been bugging us about this fridge since the landlords got it for us two years ago. It's MUCH better now. Of course it could be argued that we now have a trailer trash kitchen since our fridge is up on blocks... :)

I did some staining work on a piece of quarter-round to prep it for attachment to a piece of shelving that will go up in the kitchen far above the stove and the shelf of baking supplies to hold some of my novelty jars and canisters. Sadly when I went to check our house supply box I found that there was only ONE shelf bracket (several years ago we bought a small ton of shelf brackets that all match but we bought PAIRS and used PAIRS so if there are ANY left there should be PAIRS). Luckily the last time I was at Home Despot I noted that they still carry this style so all is not lost. I just have to apply the clear coat and attach the quarter-round to the front of the shelf and obtain an additional bracket. And then one more thing can get scratched off the never-ending "it would be nice if..." house list.

We also took a nap together, curled up on the couch downstairs in the sewing room - since it's nice and dark in there during the day and the bedroom is just too bright.

We had potstickers for lunch (and I got to use the fan that's built into the new range hood we installed) and caught up on a little TiVo.

And now I get to dive into balancing our check book and finishing the shelf. And I have to figure out if I want to go to Home Despot this evening - I just hate the thought of going for ONE damn bracket. But the shelf being finished and not being installed for lack of that self sam ebracket will likely drive me more nuts - and I WANT that shelf up damnit. Wheee.
