Long time no see...

Popped over here to LJ land to look for something I wrote up and thought that I might have posted here. And was surprised to see that it's been a good few years since I put anything here. **boggle**

Yeah, I'm still around but just not here that much any more.

PSA: Magical Acts is shutting down...

What follows is the official notice from the Board of Directors of Magical Acts regarding shutting down the organization that we released at PantheaCon 2011. If you were ever involved with a Magical Acts Ritual Theatre production please be certain to read this through.

Obviously PantheaCon is over - so if you are someone interested in a costume or prop that we may still have in storage, please contact us at maiacfo AT gmail.com to let us know the following:

1. Name of the production

2. What part you played, or what you did for the production

3. What prop or costume piece you are interested in

This applies to both actors and support crew - we believe that someone who built a prop may be as attached to that prop as an actor who wore a costume to play a part. Please remember that many of our productions involved the actors creating and providing their own costume pieces - so we may not have something you are interested in.

All requests for items must be received on or before April 30th, 2011 and items will be gotten to interested parties as time allows. Please remember that immediate &/or quick turnaround on requests is not guaranteed - it all depends on what free time Cruz & I have.

Any items left over will be donated to an appropriate school or theatre.

Feel free to share this if you think there is someone who needs to know but may not see this.

This will be cross-posted to other online sources as well.

Thanks.

****************************************************

To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven . . .

For over ten years, Magical Acts International Association/Magical Acts Ritual Theatre has

encouraged and assisted the development and growth of ritual and ritual theatre in the Bay Area

– and beyond – through presentations of Oracles from the Living Tarot, Heretics Harlots and

Heroes, and many other ground-breaking productions.

Myriad signs and portents over the past two years have indicated to us (the members of the

MAIA Board of Directors) that MAIA’s mission is fulfilled, that ritual and ritual theatre are alive

and thriving and growing in the Bay Area, that there are now many avenues available to our

community for this work, and that MAIA’s time is finished.

To celebrate this past decade+ of Magical Acts – and our special long-time connection with the

Con – we will be hosting a party room at this year’s PantheaCon. We plan to be open from 1 pm

to midnight Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Drop by and share your memories!

Over the next few months of this year, MAIA will be going through our storage unit and figuring

out what to do with all of the “stuff” – including costumes and props – that we will no longer

be able to store. If you were in or involved with a production and feel a strong attachment to

certain costumes or props, please come by the MAIA room and let us know. We will have a sign-

up sheet available there for you to indicate the items you are interested in. If they are still in our

possession, we will endeavor to locate them and arrange for you to take possession of them.

In closing, we wish to thank everyone who has contributed to Magical Acts over these past years.

PantheaCon 2011 Room Block Availability - Hard Date.

Crossposted from FB (just in case the stupud LJ error I got was in, errrr, error and this did not post before):

Okay people - we love the fact that you love PantheaCon. With that said, you're gnna have to be a teensy bit more patient to get your room reserved. I just got an updated load date for the room block. Saturday Feb 27th is the hard date I have been given by our Event Manager at the Doubletree for when you can call in. You all can try calling on Friday the 26th, but don't expect too much. She confirmed for me that Friday is when they will be downloading the room info from one system to the other (hotels are rather archaic and have multiple systems that do not talk to each other without LOTS of poking and prodding). Hopefully this will go smoothly and you will all get to Ro-Sham-Bo for rooms by the end of the week!

Dickens Faire 2009

Again with the posting here because it will flow over to Facebook (I'll go there and tag people shortly).

Home from Dickens. A bit tired. But we spent 6-ish hours there walking around - my ankle held up pretty well and only really started hurting as we were leaving.

We got to see a bunch of friends and sadly there were a couple we did not manage to track down. But I was all full of nostalgia and found that I REALLY missed Dickens. It's been 14 years since I worked it (I still have my participants pass from 1995). It was fun, but bittersweet. Cruz was even making noises about how he though it might be fun to work it. So... we know TONS of people there so something tells me we could likely find SOMETHING to do! Any suggestions anyone? :)

We got to see Karsten at the Adventurers Club (who got us in - thank you VERY much!) and we gave him his own pan of fresh-baked-this-morning-and-still-slightly-warm Double Dark Chocolate Guinness Brownies as a thank you.

We got to see Kaellie and Rachel at Mad Sals and gave them cookies.

We got to see Rydel & Thalassa (in different places) and gave them cookies.

We got to see SallyRose and Drew at Dark Garden and gave them cookies.

We brought them all cookies because we were certain we'd find them (and the point was to get cookies OUT of the house and not bring them back home). If the rest of you feel shorted, I can try to make it up to you! :)

We also got to see Meg at the Puzzle Ring Shop, Remington at Fezziwigs, Steve at The Adventurers Club (did not have a chance to say hi, but we exchanged waves), z! in the street, Dearbhail/Jennifer at the Dicken Parlor (OMG I ***LOVE*** her dress) AND in the Dark Garden window, and while I saw Robert, he was very busy being Mr. Dickens and so I did not want to interrupt him.

In no particular order we also ran into:
Schyler and his friends.
Diana and the Woozles (yay for hugs from God-children!)
Sarah Goodman
Patrick White

And I saw tons of people I recognized from years of doing Faire (both Northern Ren and Dickens WAAAY back when).

Sally got Cruz and I into corsets, OMG Cruz is TINY! He was wearing one that laces down to a 25" waist (yes I have pictures) and he got pics of me in the one I tried on. And I got my hair braided (more pictures). We had Steak & Mushroom pies for lunch (YUMMY) and sat and watched some belly dancing. And I kept feeling bittersweet. And did I mention I missed it? Terribly? Yeah, thought so...

**EDIT** I am reposting now that I have reconnected FB & LJ... GRRR, but it appears to not actually flow to my "notes" any more. THAT is gonna piss me off if true.

Wheee.Whee Holiday planning... Winter 2009

Getting this out of my head here in LJ as it will post to my FB notes. I know I have barely posted here, I find the fly-by-night nature of FB currently is more suited to how I can operate. But I will try to be better for longer things.

November:

This past weekend was US time due to our anniversary. And we spent time on the house.

Next weekend is chock full of con stuff (both days) so Friday evening will be devoted to prepping for that.

Third weekend is a little more con stuff (including Friday), a big event for two dear friends and then packing for the trip down south.

We're going to my Sister's in Oceanside for Turkey Day (Since she and I have not had a Turkey Day together in over a decade). And then that weekend is LosCon at the LAX Marriott. It's also the 6 month out mark for BayCon and the just under 3 month out mark for PantheaCon. Really, I am NOT panicking.

December:

The first weekend is some con planning stuff (again both days) and one friends birthday and another friends anniversary. Not that I expect to be doing stuff with either of them specifically, more of a mental note to myself.

Second weekend is the beginning of Hannukah and possibly some con related holiday stuff.

Third weekend is Mother's Night with a friend (I get to use my new chocolate mold that makes skeleton keys) and Yule (I figure there will be some wandering caroling in there somewhere if I don't get a cold AGAIN this year and can actually be outside singing).

And then Christmas, which is just far enough out that I am not quite thinking about it... yet.... but I know it's there. I just wish we had a house where WE could host people. I get so tired of no tree, and no holiday time at home, and having to impose on others. I keep telling myself "someday" but with each passing year I believe it less and less.

January:

It looks like New Years will be up at Greyhaven, which we have not managed to attend in a couple of years. And 12/31 is a Blue Moon on top of it so it could be a lovely night. And then later that weekend more con stuff since PantheaCon is President's Day weekend.

That's it for now. Off to play Wiz 101 for a bit.

PSA Contact Lens Wearers...

Hey - we have an unopened bottle of Opti-Free Express Multi Purpose Disinfecting Solution - the exp date on the bottle is Nov of 2009. Cruz got new contacts and he cannot use this solution with them so it's up for grabs (within reason of course, we have to be able to hand it off somehow, right?).

Anyone want it? With money the way it is for everyone right now, we would hate to toss it.

Updates...

So - last night [livejournal.com profile] cruz531 was running a low grade fever. Not uncommon after surgery - in fact they state quite clearly to expect it and keep an eye on it. However, at one point it spiked to 101 and we both made the mental note to keep a closer eye.

This morning it was up and down but hit 100.1

Um no...

THEN he tells me that last night, on one of his self propelled trips to the bathroom, he noticed a "fizzy" feeling. He described it as "kinda like when you only partially open a soda can and squeeze it"... This feeling is mostly located around the large incision where they had the JP Drain in (this item continues to baffle the doctors and the PA's).

Um no...

AND The Norco they gave him for pain isn't hardly helping. He took a dose at 8:30am, and is supposed to take it every 4 hours for pain. By 10am it had worn off. THIS does NOT bode well.

So he calls the surgeons office - their response? "How soon can you come in?"

So we get over there and they admit him. Urine and blood tests all came back fine, but showing his potassium as a little low so they are adjusting for that with his IV fluids. The surgeon wants a chest Xray. He is apparently a model patient on the incentive spirometer but they are taking NO chances with his Asthma history vis a vis his lungs.

Another good thing is that one of the PA's from the surgeons office went and found the surgeon and brought him in to take a look. He poked, prodded and palpated - His belly is soft (and that is a good thing). It means that at least some of the gas buildup has processed out.

They gave him IV morphine to drop his pain from a rating of 9+ to 3/4 and he was able to get up and start walking (which helps the body to process out the toxins of the anesthesia and such).

Now I get to haggle with the insurance about whether or not this counts as a whole new admittance for the purposes of charging us the $250 hospitalization copay. Cause MAN we CANNOT afford TWO of those. When I called them today their systems were down and all the lady could tell me for sure is that if he were discharged and readmitted within the SAME day, it would not count as two visits. When I asked "what about if it's less than 24 hours or even less than 18 hours later cause they let him go home too soon?" She said she did not know. So I get to call back tomorrow. But this? THIS is money we REALLY don't have.

I am now going to finish what is sitting in front of me and currently passing for food, drink my Iced Coffee, and work on some stuff that has gone languishing due to various things eating my focus this week.

Hopefully he will come home, again, tomorrow. There is no telling until then however.

Some thoughts rattling around in my head about MY January 5th

So, now that my sweetie is out of surgery and well on the way to getting better. I can now try to work through my own baggage about yesterday that has NOTHING to do with him.

IMPORTANT! Monday Jan 5th will be cwazy...

So will the rest of the week - right now at work it's not only month end, but year end for me.

And now we have a whole new twist to things that are trying to make my head explode - no matter how good they are.

My sweetie, [livejournal.com profile] cruz531, finally got approved for and is having his Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery on Monday, January 5th. It will be at Summit Hospital in Oakland and he will have the same surgeon I had (which helps with his confidence and stress levels amazingly). It should be laparoscopic - but they will switch to open if it is necessary.

He has been doing really well with the pre-op diet and has visibly lost more weight (as well as trackably per the scale) and every little bit he loses is good as it increases the various positive outcomes of the surgery - starting with making it through. But this is not a diet that can be done long term without the help of a tool like the surgery - 600-800 calories a day, mostly liquids is crazy hard.

His procedure is scheduled for 1pm with check in at 10:30am. He could easily be in surgery until 7pm or longer. By the time he is out of both surgery and recovery and into a room it will be well past visiting hours, so trying to see him Monday may be difficult.

I HAVE to go to work Monday morning. No choice really - but I will be coming home to get him and take him to the hospital and will be at the hospital the whole time. His mother has indicated she wants to come and wait with me, but she has been very sick for a couple of weeks now with something she cannot shake and she really should NOT be at the hospital. And it will make me crazier and not be helpful to me.

Unlike when I was in for my surgery I do not think I will be sleeping at the hospital (like Cruz did) as my body just won't let me do that (and they may not let me do that). And I have to work as much as possible this week due to month & year end. But I will be there as much as I possibly can be.

I will be calling family once he is out of surgery and recovery and in a room. I will be posting when/where I can further details as I have them. Burning up my phone with calls may or may not be helpful - so please keep in mind that he will very likely may not be able to answer his phone and that I may not be at the hospital to have the most current update.

He should be released to come home by Thursday, unless he is super special like me and has some odd thing pop up on Thursday while trying to get ready to go home that makes them say "Uh no, you're staying one more day". We should be home Friday at the latest.

More info as I have it. Good thoughts, lit candles, best wishes for a speedy recovery, all are welcome.

VHS Tapes to give away *UPDATED*

OK - we got through the VHS to DVD comparison.

I am going to post the list of VHS tapes that are dupes to what we have in our DVD collection or are ones we just don't want/need anymore.

*EDIT* The Only ones left are the workout tapes at the end of the list.

If you are one of those crazy people who still has a VCR and wants any of them simply speak up and it's yours. And yes we are some of those crazy people who still have a VCR - we're just trying to reduce some of the extra clutter fu in our house.

So, The Caveats:

*If you live near us where we may see you and can HAND them to you then they are yours free and clear. They will get to you quicker if you come and get them from us, as us trying to get them TO people right now is dicey for many reasons. The next 10 - 12 weeks is BEYOND crazy for us right now.

*If you are far away (i.e., where we CANNOT see you face to face) I ask that you cover shipping. We will figure that out later.

Now onto the list - I will break these into categories (some rough). Most of these tapes have actually not been viewed all that much, I will note special things where I can.

Ahem... I don't care what you think about the war in Iraq...

THIS is quietly amazing. Period.

Where I just stumbled accross it:
http://paganwiccan.about.com/b/2007/09/11/the-walk-of-the-fallen.htm

And their home page:
http://www.walkofthefallen.com/home.html

Again, I don't care what you think, or don't, about the war in Iraq...

About whether it's a war or not, honorable or not, right or wong. So STFU - I don't care what your opinion is, or whether you agree with the war or not.

Sometimes it's about the people, and what they give up.

And how we remember them.

Period.

Tired cat is tired... But got stuff DONE...

Wow - with the tired. Sitting down for a minute and need to sort out thoughts while tanking some water (been not too good about it today - *hush* I am fixing that whilst updating here).

We have gotten over half of the storage unit cleared out and mostly into the attic over the kitchen. We're both feeling super silly about paying for a storage unit for a while now when there was literally storage *right over our heads*.... uh yeah... not always smart.

We are trying to get out of the storage unit by Weds (the end of the month) cause we really cannot afford it for another month. And after Mon 1/5 my sweetie will not be allowed to lift anything over 10ish pounds for about 6 weeks. So if we don't manage this by this weds then we will be stuck paying for some sort of storage unit for at least 2-3 more months. Uh no - he's too stubborn for that. :)

We think we have gotten enough stuff condensed and sorted and rearranged (and stuffed into the attic) that we can manage this. Time will tell - especially this week.

One thing we will be doing shortly is sorting through our VHS tapes. Anything that we have on DVD we will be wanting to get rid of the VHS copy of. I will likely be posting something here about what we want to get rid of, as there is at least some duplication. I don't know how many of you still even HAVE VCR's but it won't hurt to put it out there.

Found a scary box of old financial stuff from 1993... some hard memories in there. A few of you will understand what I am talking about.

We got the amazing lego collection of DOOM into the attic. As well as the Xmas ornaments that we just cannot use living in such a TINY place. I find it amusing that the many more boxes of halloween stuff get to stay out of the attic though - heh. But I had a few "I miss Xmas" moments whilst repacking them. It's been over 10 years since I had a tree and decorated in any way really - and the last one that WAS in this house was an amazing fiasco of dumbass roomate power play politics that rather soured me to them for a good while.

And wow am I scared of how many books we own. Nuff said there.

I have now finished my large glass of water and will wrap this up. I hope the holidays were at least kind to all. There is a much more important update forthcoming - but we're rather crazed with chores and errands and such right now. So if we seem to be off the radar for a little bit that is why.

Now - off to get what is likely the last bit of STUFF into the attic. I just hope it all fits.

Anyone have a king size bed?

I am wondering cause we have at least one set, if not two sets, of gently used sheets in king size from when Cruz had a king size water bed. They were both brand new shortly before he moved into my place, where there is NO chance of a King sized bed fitting (like EVER).

So if anyone has a king sized bed and would like at least one set of sheets please speak up - they have both been washed as of today in scent free and dye free detergent w/ no fabric softener.

First Set: Confirmed King Size via tag on sheet. Bottom sheet is multi-colored in jewel tones green/gold/purple/blue, top sheet is blue w/ gold trim at the top edge, and the pillow cases match the top sheet.

Second Set: I have to double check the sizing, but I am pretty certain it's king sized too. Bottom sheet is cream/white with hunter green & burgundy plaid striping (NOT spaced close together, actually kinda far apart), and the top sheet is hunter green as are the pillow cases (I have to figure out which two of the multiple green pillow cases we have are the right two).

If no one wants them no worries, they'll be kept as fabric - I even have tentative plans for some of it. But I figured I would say something here.

EDIT: Sheets are at their new home. YAY!!
